Born in Blackpool, a working-class seaside town in northern England, I spent my early years in the arcades and drawing album covers, collages of music, pop stars and fashion. I scraped into art college for a graphic design degree, interned at the legendary Designers Republic in Sheffield, then landed at a small Manchester agency with a studio in the basement and free records on tap. When the boss lost interest I jumped ship with a few clients and started my own studio with a best friend.

Love (and a plane ticket) took me to LA. Small projects got noticed. Then Hollywood Records sent me to see a Disney star called Demi Lovato. I designed her debut album — it went straight to No.1 on the Billboard charts. For the deluxe edition they asked me to direct the shoot. Green and panicking, I said yes. That was the moment I knew this was my lane.

Next came Carly Rae Jepsen’s Kiss (and “Call Me Maybe”), then the call that changed everything: Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection. A reworked deluxe with new songs and a lenticular cover that flipped between Will Cotton’s original painting and my artwork. That project became a long-term relationship with Katy and Capitol (including the later KatyCatalog).

Val Pensa at RCA brought me in to creative-direct and design Hilary Duff’s long-awaited return, introducing me to stylist Brett Alan Nelson. More RCA work followed — GRL, Betty Who, Frankie — then Mary J. Blige for Capitol and, after plenty of pleading, Britney Spears. We shot in a secretly built desert village with David LaChapelle: cars on fire, a giant ear, a stage of broken mirrors. Unforgettable.

Then PTX, TLC, Noah Cyrus, Meghan Trainor, CAM… and Doja. Brett brought me in (with Val’s blessing) to design Planet Her. Three album campaigns later, real creative freedom with a once-in-a-generation artist. He also pulled me onto Tate McRae’s So Close to What era.

Most recently, after a couple of singles, Zayn asked me to conceptualise, creative-direct and design his first solo tour. The fans loved it. He called it his favourite visuals ever.
